Corporate Profile

The Portek Group of companies started in 1988 and we have established ourselves as the leading turnkey provider of equipment, services and solutions for the global port industry.

The Group is headquartered in Singapore and is engaged in business operations in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Mediterranean, Africa and the Americas. The Group's activities are multifarious: we undertake sales and leasing of cranes; we offer our engineering expertise to ports for crane mobilization, modification and modernisation; we are a system integrator of crane drives and automation; we market and distribute crane components and spares around the world. We possess a growing terminal operations portfolio, as a natural extension of our equipment leasing and sales business.

Today, Portek manages and operates three terminals in Indonesia – two in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, and one in Banten, West Java. In August 2004, Portek entered into a joint venture agreement with Enterprise Portuaire de Bejaia for the formation of a joint venture company, Bejaia Mediterranean Terminal (“BMT”), which holds a 20-year concession for handling container and bulk cargo at the Port of Bejaia. In 2006, Portek secured a 30-year concession for the operation and management of the Valletta Gateway Terminal in Malta. These acquisitions have brought Portek’s total combined throughput in 2006 to 680,000 TEUs. Our long-term strategy is the assembly of a global network of high-performance ports, and these developments are in line with that strategy.

Leveraging on our engineering expertise, the Group is expanding its services to the energy sector. Opportunities here include power generation, leasing and maintenance of equipment in the oil and gas sectors. We believe that our core competencies in drive system integration, crane control and automation can be deployed in the energy sector in the form of revamping and operating power plants, and implementing control and monitoring systems for oil and gas installations.
