Are businesses here doing enough to support the community and its underprivileged members in particular? What should be done to create a culture of corporate philanthropy in Singapore?
IN THE recent past, we see more Singapore companies beginning to do more for charitable and social causes. I sense that businesses are beginning to realise that as much as they benefit from the society, they also have to give part of it back as well. We now see more effort, not just in monetary terms, but also time devoted to social causes. As the momentum grows, every business will find that it make sense to make some form social contribution, whether monetary or otherwise. This may not just be for altruistic reasons as increasingly, consumers and users will also pay more attention to companies that play a bigger role in helping the community. The media can further help by highlighting those companies that are active in helping the community.
