Are there synergies for Singapore from Malaysia's South Johor project? What role do you see your organisation, and Singapore firms generally, playing in the development of this project?
SINGAPORE companies should view the South Johor Economic Development as an opportunity. As this region develops, it will provide Singapore companies with new market and business opportunities. At the same time, once controls on the movement of people and goods are relaxed, South Johor would offer access to cheaper land and labour for Singapore companies.
More importantly, the involvement of Singapore companies in this project will hopefully bring the two countries, and the state of Johor in particular, closer together. Ultimately, if the project is a success, it will help business and political leaders see that the fate of the two countries are intertwined and that both countries can complement each other rather than compete.
