HG Metal brings great convenience to customers with the ‘one-stop
supermarket’ strategy. With a single visit to our well-stocked warehouse
and manufacturing facility, our clients will be able to satisfy all their
steel needs.
Being the only steel stockist in Singapore with a manufacturing arm, we
are able to custom manufacture steel products according to our customers’
specifications. We thus have a distinct competitive advantage against our
competitors as we can fulfill our customers’ requirements more quickly and
completely, especially for specifications that are not readily available
in the market. Apart from convenience, our clients also enjoy cost savings
with our one-stop strategy.
Manufacturing
HG Metal currently manufactures customized flat steel bars used in a wide
variety of engineering processes and mild steel lip channels commonly used
as roofing support in commercial and industrial buildings. It intends to
expand its product mix to include the manufacturing of steel pipes.
Realizing the future potential of its manufacturing business, HG Metal
invested $3.3 million to build a new 3–storey steel manufacturing facility
and warehouse in Singapore, which became operational in 2001.
Sandblasting
Our subsidiary Oriental Metals Pte Ltd (OM) has also begun construction of a new factory as announced previously. Expected to be completed by March 2006 and to cost nearly $1 million, this new factory will house a sandblasting plant. This foray into sandblasting represents yet another step by the Group to increasingly focus on value-added services. One of the industries we are supplying to is shipyards which require their ship plates to be sandblasted before use. Our sandblasting operations should commence in the second half of FY2006.
