MEDIA group Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has appointed two new directors to its board - former chief justice Yong Pung How and former nominated member of Parliament (NMP) Ng Ser Miang.

Mr Yong, 81, and Mr Ng, 58, will join the board as non-executive directors on July 1 and Aug 1 respectively.
Mr Yong, who was chief justice from 1990 to 2006, is no newcomer to SPH. He was appointed director and deputy chairman of SPH after its incorporation in Aug 1984, but left in June 1989 when he joined the High Court bench.
Mr Yong's previous corporate positions include being deputy chairman of Malayan Banking Berhad and chairman and chief executive officer of OCBC Bank.
He has also headed both the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
Mr Ng is the chairman of TIBS International Pte Ltd, NTUC Choice Homes Co-operative Ltd, NCI Golf Pte Ltd, and NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd.
He is also a director of several companies, including WBL Corporation Ltd.
Said SPH chairman Tony Tan: 'Both Mr Yong and Mr Ng have distinguished careers in large public and private organisations. Besides their versatility and capability, they are also true gentlemen with great integrity. Their vast experience and knowledge will greatly strengthen the SPH board and complement our board members' expertise.'
